UAE-U.S. Partnership Strengthens Global Stability And Economic Development Efforts

The UAE and the US have enjoyed a robust partnership for over 50 years, collaborating across various sectors to promote growth and prosperity. The visit of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, to the US aims to further strengthen this relationship through enhanced communication and dialogue, benefiting both nations.

Economic ties between both the nations are strong, with bilateral trade (excluding oil) nearing $40 billion. Merchandise trade increased by 9.47% from $31.45 billion in 2023 to $34.43 billion in 2024, as per the U.S. Department of Commerce data.

UAE-U S  Partnership Boosts Global Stability

In April 2024, G42, a leading AI company in the UAE, secured a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft, highlighting their commitment to advancing technology together. Additionally, World Wide Technology, Inc., a US-based firm, partnered with NXT Global in June to establish an AI integration centre in Masdar City.

The UAE's investments in the US, totalling approximately $3.7 billion from 2018 to 2023, focus on sectors like renewable energy and telecommunications. Meanwhile, U.S. investments in the UAE reached around $9.5 billion during the same period.

In September 2024, both countries announced a framework for AI cooperation, focusing on safe development and ethical standards. This includes regulatory frameworks for innovation and collaboration on AI security and talent development.

The UAE's space exploration efforts include launching the Hope Probe in 2021 and collaborating with the University of Colorado Boulder on the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA). The UAE is also contributing to NASA’s Lunar Gateway Programme by developing an airlock module for astronauts.

Climate action is central to UAE-US cooperation through initiatives like PACE, aiming to mobilise $100 billion for generating 100 gigawatts of clean energy by 2035. The UAE also co-leads AIM4C with the US, engaging over 50 countries to advance sustainable agriculture.

Masdar has invested in several clean energy projects across the US, including ventures like Big Beau and battery storage near Los Angeles, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable development.

The strategic alliance between these two nations continues to evolve through shared goals in technology, space exploration, clean energy, and economic collaboration. Their ongoing efforts aim to address global challenges while fostering mutual prosperity.
