UAE President And US Secretary Sign MoU To Boost Energy And AI Collaboration

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, met with Doug Burgum, Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior. The meeting took place at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi. Secretary Burgum was visiting to attend the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2025), scheduled from 3 to 6 November.

The discussions between His Highness and Secretary Burgum focused on strengthening UAE-US relations, especially in energy, artificial intelligence, and innovation. They explored ways to enhance cooperation for mutual benefits. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to boost collaboration in energy and AI, aiming to drive industrial transformation and economic growth.

The MoU was signed by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber for the UAE Government and Doug Burgum for the US. This agreement aims to build a resilient economy, foster sustainable industrial transformation, and reinforce national economic security. It reflects both nations' commitment to technological progress and leveraging advanced technologies.

Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber highlighted that this partnership aligns with leadership's vision of forming impactful global partnerships across key sectors. He emphasized the UAE's dedication to using its energy expertise for a modern, knowledge-driven economy. The collaboration will support high-tech manufacturing growth and strengthen supply chains.

Secretary Burgum noted that under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the US is using AI to modernise infrastructure and improve energy systems. This collaboration with the UAE reflects President Trump's commitment during his earlier visit. It aims to strengthen global leadership in energy and technology innovation while safeguarding long-term economic interests.

The MoU outlines cooperation in boosting advanced industrial capabilities and adopting smart manufacturing technologies. It seeks significant advancements in industrial processes, production planning, logistics, energy efficiency, smart grids management, predictive maintenance, and energy storage systems.

Broader Ambitions

The agreement also includes AI applications in robotics, materials engineering, automation, technical collaboration, knowledge sharing, skills development, and capacity building through tailored training programmes. These efforts align with the UAE’s ambition to become a global hub for industry and advanced technology as per its National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology.

The meeting saw attendance from H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan; Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei; Yousef Al Otaiba; along with senior officials and accompanying delegation members.
