UAE And UNESCO Discuss Expanded Cooperation In Culture, Heritage And Education At Davos

The UAE used the World Economic Forum in Davos as a platform to deepen dialogue with UNESCO on education, culture and heritage. H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met UNESCO Director-General Khaled El Enany to discuss cooperation that links cultural development with knowledge, science and sustainable growth.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meetings of the World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland, from 19 to 23 January. It formed part of the UAE’s broader engagement with global partners at the forum, which gathers leaders to address long-term economic and development issues.

H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed outlined the UAE’s integrated vision for education, culture, knowledge and heritage, and stressed how closely it aligns with UNESCO’s mandate. H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed noted that culture, education and science are essential for sustainable development and help build prosperous societies with strong identities and constructive international dialogue.

Both sides underlined that culture and education support social stability and are central to sustainable development strategies. The discussion highlighted how these sectors can encourage mutual understanding between nations. It also showed how shared projects between the UAE and UNESCO can respond to complex global dynamics and support long-term resilience in diverse communities.

The talks examined UNESCO’s work in protecting global heritage sites and traditions, as well as supporting cultural and creative industries and promoting education and scientific research. H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to deepen cooperation with UNESCO, including policy development and the exchange of expertise on culture and knowledge.

Participants also discussed common priorities in cultural and development fields, such as safeguarding tangible and intangible heritage, backing the creative economy and enhancing the role of culture in comprehensive development plans. They reviewed how education and knowledge can empower communities, while better regional and international coordination can address rapid changes in global conditions.

The meeting included H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi and senior officials from both sides. Their participation reflected institutional support within the UAE for long-term collaboration with UNESCO, linking cultural policy, heritage protection and education agendas at regional and international levels.
