UAE And Türkiye Join Forces To Redevelop Sheikh Zayed Children's Complex

The UAE's Ministry of Community Development and the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, alongside Türkiye's Ministry of Family and Social Services, have signed two memoranda of understanding. These agreements focus on redeveloping the Sheikh Zayed Children's Complex in Istanbul. The UAE has pledged AED 40.4 million (USD 11 million) to this initiative, which also includes exchanging expertise in social work with Türkiye.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chair of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, highlighted the importance of this partnership. He stated: "Our partnership with the Republic of Türkiye reinforces the UAE’s legacy of compassion which began with our Founding Father and continues today. Through this partnership we demonstrate our dedication to supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society, children. In recognition of the importance of protecting children, we are honoured to support the redevelopment of the Sheikh Zayed Children's Complex to ensure that there are safe spaces in which they can flourish and reach their potential in life."

Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development for the UAE, emphasised that these memoranda aim to strengthen cooperation between both nations. She noted that sharing expertise and best practices in social development will help align UAE services with global standards. This collaboration will drive innovation in policies, programs, and initiatives to meet community needs effectively.

The signing ceremony saw notable attendees including First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrui, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Dr Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, and Aisha Gul Yildirim Kara. Their presence underscored the significance of this international cooperation.

Dr Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi expressed his satisfaction with this collaboration as part of the Foundation's mission to support community development. He remarked that "giving" is a core value instilled by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and continues under the guidance of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.

The Sheikh Zayed Children’s Complex offers essential services for orphans and at-risk children. The facility provides a nurturing environment catering to diverse needs. The redevelopment project will include expansion and ongoing maintenance to secure its future.

Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid highlighted that this initiative reflects the UAE's vision prioritising family and child welfare. She noted that enhancing service quality through international cooperation is crucial for improving overall quality of life.

Knowledge Exchange Initiatives

This partnership will facilitate knowledge exchange between ministries on family development, child protection, domestic violence prevention, legal frameworks, administrative practices, educational legislation, and psychological support programs for children via Türkiye's ANKA platform.
