UAE's Commitment To Tolerance As A Cornerstone Of Nation-Building, Says FNC Speaker Saqr Ghobash

The UAE has consistently embraced a visionary approach since its inception, focusing on peaceful coexistence and global harmony. Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), highlighted this during the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Rome. The event was organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Italian Parliament, drawing participation from parliamentary leaders, international organisations, faith-based institutions, and civil society representatives.

Ghobash underscored the significance of the Document on Human Fraternity, initiated in Abu Dhabi in 2019 under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's patronage. He described it as a pivotal moment in fostering interreligious and intercultural relations. "This document was not merely a declaration of intent," he said, "but a moral and philosophical framework transcending religious faiths, establishing a new global ethic that elevates human dignity above all affiliations."

UAE Emphasises Tolerance in Nation-Building

During his address, Ghobash emphasised that despite diverse languages, cultures, and religions, people are united by shared human values. These values protect dignity, belief, and the right to live safely and peacefully. This unity is crucial for fostering mutual respect among different communities worldwide.

The conference venue in Rome held symbolic importance for Ghobash. He noted that Rome has historically been a hub of human thought and civic development. "Rome has, for centuries, embodied a dynamic civilisational path where nations interacted in the realms of philosophy, politics, law, citizenship, and pluralism," he stated.

The conference saw notable attendees such as Tulia Ackson from Tanzania's National Assembly; Lorenzo Fontana from Italy's Chamber of Deputies; and Ignazio La Russa from Italy's Senate. The UAE delegation included several FNC members who contributed to discussions on promoting interfaith dialogue globally.

Ghobash's remarks at the conference highlighted the UAE's commitment to fostering dialogue among different faiths and cultures. By promoting understanding and cooperation across borders, the UAE aims to contribute to global peace efforts through initiatives like the Document on Human Fraternity.

The gathering served as a platform for exchanging ideas on how nations can work together to promote peace through dialogue. It reinforced the importance of collaboration between countries to address global challenges related to religious tolerance and cultural understanding.
