UAE Team Emirates Secures Wins In Italy And Spain With Ulissi And Pogačar
In a remarkable display of skill and strategy, UAE Team Emirates clinched double victories in two prestigious cycling events, marking a significant day for the team. The triumphs came through Diego Ulissi at the Coppi e Bartali and Tadej Pogačar at the Volta a Catalunya, showcasing the team's dominance in the sport.
Diego Ulissi's victory was a testament to his experience and tactical prowess. The Italian cyclist excelled in the final stretch of stage 2, covering a distance of 156.5 km from Riccione to Sogliano al Rubicone, which included a challenging hill of 4.7 km at a 4.3 percent gradient. Ulissi's strategic push in the last 400 metres allowed him to surpass the leading duo, De Pretto (Jayco Alula) and Ryan (Ef-EasyPost), securing the win by overtaking them at the -200 metre mark. This victory not only placed Ulissi at the top of the general classification but also continued his impressive record of securing at least one win per season since turning professional in 2010.

Shortly after Ulissi's win, Tadej Pogačar added to the team's success with a stage victory in the Volta a Catalunya. The Slovenian cyclist replicated his victorious strategy from stage 2 during stage 3, which spanned 176.7 km from Sant Joan de les Abadesses to Port Ainé, featuring an 18.4 km climb at a 6.7 percent gradient. Pogačar launched an attack at -6 km, overtaking Mikel Landa (Soudal-Quick Step) and maintaining his lead to finish 48" ahead of the Spaniard. This win marked the 16th victory for UAE Team Emirates in 2024, underscoring their exceptional performance this season.
The achievements of Ulissi and Pogačar highlight UAE Team Emirates' strategic approach and competitive edge in professional cycling. These victories not only contribute to the team's growing list of successes but also reinforce their position as leading contenders in international cycling competitions.
