UAE Team Emirates Achieves Strong Start With Second Place Finish In Tour De Romandie Prologue
On the first day of the Tour de Romandie, Ivo Oliveira nearly clinched his first WorldTour win. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider finished second in the prologue. Oliveira, a Portuguese track expert, showcased his skills on the 3.5km course but was narrowly defeated by Samuel Watson of Ineos Grenadiers.
Oliveira's performance was impressive, maintaining an average speed of 45.27kph for his team. However, Watson edged him out by a mere 0.0028 seconds at the finish line in Saint-Imier. This close finish thrilled spectators who gathered to witness the event's latest edition.

The UAE Team Emirates-XRG had a commendable start with three riders in the top 10. Jay Vine, Jan Christen, and João Almeida secured ninth, tenth, and eleventh places respectively. Almeida was the first from his team to start in the afternoon and made a promising beginning for his general classification ambitions.
Reflecting on his near victory while cooling down on Elite rollers, Oliveira acknowledged Watson's win and expressed optimism for the upcoming stages. "I have to give credit to Samuel; he rode exceptionally well," Oliveira remarked as he prepared for the rest of the race week.
The competition will intensify on Wednesday as stage 1 takes riders from Mūnchenstein to Fribourg over nearly 200km. After Oliveira's strong opening performance, he will start this stage tied with Watson for the race lead.
The narrow margin of victory added excitement for roadside fans who turned out in large numbers to support the cyclists. The team's solid performance set a positive tone for their campaign in this historic race.
As Oliveira and his teammates gear up for stage 1, they aim to build on their initial success and maintain their competitive edge throughout the Tour de Romandie.
