UAE Distributes 3,000 Food Packages To Support Sudanese Refugees In Chad
The United Arab Emirates has initiated a humanitarian project in Chad to aid Sudanese refugees. This effort involves distributing 3,000 food packages across the Dougui, Alacha, and Abougoudam camps. The initiative is part of a larger cooperation framework with Chad's Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity, and Humanitarian Affairs and the National Commission for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees (CNARR).
Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Chad, stated, "This endeavour is part of the UAE’s humanitarian and development approach, which places the welfare and dignity of individuals at the forefront. Furthermore, the project underscores the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting those affected by crises and conflicts, particularly in regions experiencing mass displacement and severe humanitarian challenges."
The relief initiative aims to support 15,000 Sudanese refugees. In Dougui camp, 1,500 food packages were distributed to benefit 7,500 people. Alacha camp received 1,300 packages for 6,500 individuals. Meanwhile, Abougoudam camp was provided with 200 packages to assist 1,000 people. These supplies are intended to meet essential needs for a month.
In addition to food distribution, a medical team was sent to Abougoudam camp. This team provides healthcare services to address critical humanitarian needs amidst ongoing challenges faced by refugees in these camps.
The UAE's commitment extends beyond food aid. It has established three field hospitals for Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries. Two hospitals are located in Amdjarass and Abéché in Chad. Another facility is Madhol Hospital in South Sudan.
Al Shamsi further commented on the initiative's broader impact: "This important undertaking reflects the UAE’s sustained and extensive efforts to bolster the socio-economic well-being of host communities in Chad. These initiatives foster social cohesion and humanitarian solidarity by providing essential aid supplies that ensure decent livelihoods, address regional displacement challenges, and support vulnerable populations globally."
This comprehensive approach highlights the UAE's dedication to improving living conditions for refugees through direct assistance and international collaboration.
