UAE Strengthens Partnerships With Ecuador And Guyana Through High-Level Visits
Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, completed an official tour of Guyana and Ecuador, where UAE cooperation with both countries was reviewed. The visit focused on political and economic ties, climate and biodiversity priorities, investment prospects, and new partnership tools that support social and sustainable development in South America.
In Ecuador, Reem Al Hashimy met María José Pinto, Vice President of Ecuador, along with Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, and Cabinet Ministers responsible for Energy, Infrastructure, Foreign Trade, Investment, and Telecommunications. Discussions examined how UAE cooperation with Ecuador could expand across government, business, and technology sectors.

Both sides discussed strengthening UAE cooperation with Ecuador in political, economic, and trade areas, while exploring new opportunities in artificial intelligence, innovation, education, and enhanced city-to-city links. Reem Al Hashimy welcomed Ecuador’s decision to prioritise Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations with the UAE, noting that the successful completion of the second negotiation round represented a key milestone.
Reem Al Hashimy also highlighted that UAE cooperation with Ecuador would gain further support from the planned opening of the Ecuador Trade Office in Dubai. This new office is expected to help businesses from both sides connect more easily, support trade flows, and give structure to the broader economic relationship under discussion between the two countries.
During the Guyana leg of the visit, UAE cooperation with the Co-operative Republic of Guyana was reviewed in meetings with senior officials led by Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, and Cabinet members. Talks assessed how ties had grown over the past five years, with rising alignment on several policy priorities.
Reem Al Hashimy praised Guyana’s active role on climate change and biodiversity, and drew attention to the risks posed by rising sea levels in the wider region. The talks considered UAE cooperation with Guyana in infrastructure, biodiversity projects, and digitalisation, reflecting Guyana’s socio-economic development agenda and identifying areas for potential investment and technical collaboration.
As part of a focus on community links, Reem Al Hashimy inaugurated the Yas School of Inspiration in Crane, Guyana, described as the first school in the country dedicated to serving children with special needs. The event, which highlighted people-to-people UAE cooperation with Guyana, was attended by President Irfaan Ali, First Lady Arya Ali, and Cabinet members.
The overall visit demonstrated how UAE cooperation with Ecuador and Guyana is widening across economic, environmental, and social fields. By combining trade initiatives such as CEPA talks with support for education, infrastructure, and climate-related priorities, the UAE signalled an ongoing commitment to partnerships that back sustainable growth and development in both countries.
