UAE Calls For Strengthening Arab Parliamentary Cooperation To Address Regional Challenges And Humanitarian Crises
The Federal National Council (FNC) has highlighted the significant challenges facing the region, including political conflicts, economic and climate crises, and technological complexities. These issues are shaping both current realities and future paths. The FNC stresses the need for collective responsibility to strengthen Arab parliamentary cooperation, promote peaceful solutions, and enhance dialogue and solidarity.
Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the FNC and Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division delegation to the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), delivered these remarks on behalf of Saqr Ghobash during the 38th AIPU Conference in Algiers from May 2 to 4, 2025. He emphasised that these challenges require a unified Arab stance.

Dr. Al Tayer stated that the Palestinian issue remains a primary concern for Arabs and Muslims globally. It is currently at a critical juncture, facing immense challenges and a severe humanitarian crisis. This situation demands a unified Arab response to restore justice and dignity for Palestinians.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in numerous casualties and injuries, widespread displacement, and infrastructure destruction. The humanitarian crisis is worsened by Israel's siege on Gaza, threatening aid systems and civilian lives while undermining survival conditions.
The UAE has consistently supported Palestinians politically, developmentally, and through humanitarian relief efforts. "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3" exemplifies this commitment by providing ongoing aid to Gaza. This approach reflects the UAE’s humanitarian values established by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Dr. Al Tayer reiterated the UAE’s firm rejection of Israel's collective punishment policies and attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians. He called for an end to starvation tactics and settlement policies that violate international law.
Call for Peaceful Resolutions
He urged for a permanent ceasefire, release of hostages from both sides, and resumption of political dialogue through peaceful channels. This aims to achieve a just settlement meeting Palestinian aspirations while contributing to regional security after years of suffering.
The UAE supports regional and international efforts to revive peace processes based on a two-state solution. It views this as the strategic path towards establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Addressing Broader Regional Challenges
The complex situation in the Arab region is compounded by rapid changes in international relations and emerging global alliances. Dr. Al Tayer noted that multilateral institutions' effectiveness is declining amid growing distrust in their roles.
This reality imposes a collective responsibility to rebuild tools and approaches. The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union must adopt proactive visions addressing pressing issues while strengthening its role as a unifying platform for Arab parliamentary action.
Dr. Al Tayer concluded by emphasising the need for strategic partnerships with parliaments and international organisations to serve Arab interests amid an ever-changing global system.
