UAE Unveils Strategic Plan To Advance Arab Archives System At ICA Meeting In Barcelona
Dr. Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Director General of the National Archives and Library and Chairman of ARBICA, shared a comprehensive plan for Arab archives. This strategy aims to create a cohesive system to enhance archival work throughout the Arab region. The focus is on nurturing young talent with modern skills in records management and digital archiving.
The strategic plan also highlights the adoption of advanced systems using artificial intelligence and innovative digital solutions. These technologies aim to boost the efficiency of archival institutions in preservation, description, accessibility, and digitisation. This initiative was presented during Al Ali’s participation in the Executive Board meeting of the International Council on Archives (ICA).

Al Ali emphasised the importance of strengthening Arab cooperation in archives. He advocated for organising training events, conferences, and workshops to share expertise. He stressed unifying efforts to develop an integrated Arab archival environment that aligns with international best practices.
The Executive Board meeting also addressed shared issues like developing ICA’s future strategies and enhancing its support for global archival institutions. Several resolutions were adopted to improve cooperation mechanisms and knowledge exchange among members.
This active involvement showcases the UAE’s leading role in supporting archival work both regionally and globally. The National Archives and Library continues to foster international partnerships and embrace cutting-edge technologies in digital preservation and knowledge management.
The UAE’s leadership envisions strengthening the nation’s position as a cultural and knowledge hub worldwide. The country is committed to advancing international partnerships in line with this vision.
"Archives are fundamental sources of human memory and historical knowledge," said Al Ali during his remarks at the meeting held alongside the ICA Congress in Barcelona from October 27 to 30 this year.
