UAE Reaffirms Commitment To End Sudan Civil War Following European Parliament Resolution

The European Parliament's dedication to resolving Sudan's civil war has been acknowledged by Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State and Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the European Union. The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to collaborate with regional and international partners, including Europe, to ensure security and development for Sudan. Nusseibeh highlighted the European Parliament's support for the Quad's mediation efforts.

The Quad Joint Statement is seen as a pivotal move towards halting the conflict in Sudan. It proposes a roadmap starting with a humanitarian truce, leading to civilian governance free from influence by warring factions. The statement emphasises that Sudan's future should not be shaped by extremist groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, advocating for a civilian-led government to reform institutions and combat extremism.

Nusseibeh condemned violations by both the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Port Sudan Authority. She stated, "We continue to firmly condemn the grave violations committed by both warring parties — the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Port Sudan Authority. Their conduct has caused profound suffering and undermined Sudan’s future. An immediate end to the war and all acts of violence is imperative."

The UAE stresses an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access throughout Sudan. This stance aligns with its ongoing humanitarian focus, reflecting its commitment to aiding the Sudanese population. The UAE has consistently prioritised humanitarian relief efforts in its approach to addressing the crisis.

According to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), since the conflict began, the UAE has provided USD 784 million in aid, ranking as Sudan's second-largest donor after the United States. It is projected to be the largest donor by 2025.

Nusseibeh noted that supporting peace initiatives like those led by the Quad is crucial for ending hostilities in Sudan. The Quad's framework aims at establishing a sustainable peace process that includes all stakeholders while excluding extremist influences.

The UAE continues its diplomatic efforts alongside international partners to foster stability in Sudan. By endorsing peaceful resolutions and providing substantial humanitarian aid, it seeks to alleviate suffering and promote long-term development in the region.
