UAE Leads Global Security Efforts At UN Chiefs Of Police Summit 2024
The UAE, through the Ministry of Interior, took part in the UN Chiefs of Police Summit (2024) as the sponsoring nation. Held at the UN headquarters in New York from June 26 to 27, this participation underscores the UAE's dedication to bolstering global security, stability, and peace.
The summit is recognised as the largest assembly of ministers, police chiefs, and senior representatives from regional police organisations globally. This biennial event sees police leaders from member states engaging in bilateral discussions aimed at enhancing peace, security, and international development. It also seeks to elevate cooperation levels in policing and security among member states.

In his opening remarks, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix expressed gratitude to the UAE for sponsoring UNCOPS 2024. He highlighted that the UAE has significantly contributed to various activities related to United Nations Police. These include hosting several conferences in Abu Dhabi over the past two years to assess UN Police leaders' performance, thereby promoting dialogues with international organisations and improving police competencies.
The UAE has also hosted training courses aimed at enhancing UN Police personnel's capabilities and leadership skills among female UN Police members. Additionally, several officers from the UAE Ministry of Interior have been accredited as certified trainers for various UN Police roles.
During the summit, the UAE delegation emphasised their commitment to continuous cooperation with countries and international organisations in security and policing. They stressed their efforts to combat all types of crime and acknowledged their strategic partnership with the United Nations Police. The delegation also highlighted their involvement in the global initiative for law enforcement agencies on climate (I2LEC).

Environmental Protection Efforts
On the sidelines of UNCOPS 2024, I2LEC hosted a panel discussion titled "Guardians of the Earth: Global Law Enforcement Strategies for Environmental Protection." The discussion aimed to showcase best practices, share valuable lessons, and enhance international cooperation for stronger global law enforcement strategies for environmental protection.
