UAE Establishes Strong Foundations For Sustainable Humanitarian Efforts, Says Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), highlighted the UAE's commitment to humanitarian efforts under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He emphasised that humanitarian work is a national priority and central to the UAE's vision.

Sheikh Hamdan noted that foreign humanitarian aid is a fundamental aspect of the UAE's mission, delivered impartially without ethnic, religious, or sectarian bias. This approach underscores the nation's dedication to neutrality and humanity in its international aid efforts.

UAE's Strong Foundations for Humanitarian Work

World Humanitarian Day, observed on 19th August, serves as a reminder of the UAE's dedication to enhancing global cooperation in humanitarian fields. Sheikh Hamdan stressed that addressing escalating global challenges requires collective action and shared visions among nations and peoples.

The UAE actively works to combat poverty, hunger, and malnutrition while alleviating suffering in countries facing crises. Providing basic needs like food is crucial as it serves as a primary defence against diseases, epidemics, displacement, and deprivation.

Recent reports indicate that over 305 million people across 72 countries need humanitarian assistance. Additionally, approximately 400 million children live in conflict zones. These figures highlight the urgent need for coordinated international efforts to address these challenges effectively.

The ERC Chairman called on the international community and United Nations agencies to intensify their efforts. He urged them to enhance partnerships and strengthen coordination on programmes supporting Sustainable Development Goals, especially eradicating poverty and hunger.

Expanding Relief Operations

Sheikh Hamdan affirmed that the ERC has broadened its relief operations recently. The organisation has improved its response to increasing humanitarian crises in several regional countries, guided by its mission prioritising human needs.

He also appealed to donor organisations for increased support for specialised humanitarian institutions. This support is vital for enabling these institutions to fulfil their roles amid challenging global economic conditions.

The UAE's commitment to sustainable solutions for community development through innovative programmes remains unwavering. Sheikh Hamdan reiterated that foreign aid is integral to the UAE's journey, free from non-humanitarian considerations.
