UAE Imposes Fines On SMEs For Not Meeting Emiratisation Targets
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a significant step to boost the employment of Emirati nationals in the private sector, specifically targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has announced that SMEs with a workforce ranging from 20 to 49 employees in certain key sectors must adhere to new Emiratisation targets set for the years 2024 and 2025. Failure to comply with these targets will result in substantial fines, signaling the government's commitment to integrating UAE nationals into the diverse economic landscape of the country.
According to MOHRE's declaration on social media, the sectors identified for this initiative include a wide range of industries such as Information and Communications, Finance and Insurance, Real Estate, and several others. This fine will escalate to AED108,000 ($29,400) for non-compliance in 2025. The fines, set to be imposed in January of the following year, are part of the UAE Cabinet Resolution aimed at expanding Emiratisation targets within the SME sector.
