UAE And Singapore Strengthen Collaboration On Water Technology And Governance Ahead Of COP29

Abdulla Balalaa, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, recently met with Grace Fu, Singapore's Minister for Sustainability and the Environment. Their discussion centred on water management and governance in preparation for the UAE-Senegal Water Conference in 2026. The meeting highlighted shared interests and potential collaborations between the two nations.

Grace Fu emphasised Singapore's significant investments in water management. She noted advancements in drainage, desalination, and water reuse. Singapore's approach includes no subsidies for water conservation, ensuring efficient use by its citizens. This strategy has been crucial in managing the city-state’s limited water resources effectively.

Technology plays a crucial role in enhancing water efficiency. Biomimicry is one such technology that optimises both water usage and energy needed for desalination. This innovative approach helps reduce costs and environmental impact, making it an essential component of Singapore's water management strategy.

The UAE has launched initiatives like the "Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative" to address global water scarcity.
