UAE Government Highlights Digital Transformation At Berlin GovTech Centre Launch Event
The UAE government recently participated in the opening of the Global Government Technology Centre (GGTC) in Berlin. This centre, a collaboration between the World Economic Forum and GovTech Campus Deutschland, aims to harness digital technologies to transform public services globally. It is part of the World Economic Forum’s Fourth Industrial Revolution network and focuses on advancing GovTech solutions for digital transformation in governments worldwide.
Mohammed bin Taliah, Chief of Government Services in the UAE, attended the event alongside Børge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum, and Dr. Markus Richter from Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community. Bin Taliah highlighted the UAE's dedication to using advanced technology to improve government services' efficiency and quality. He stressed that technology is crucial for development and modernisation within the government sector.

Bin Taliah stated, "Our involvement in the launch of the Global Government Technology Centre underscores our dedication to fostering global cooperation in deploying technology to enhance digital government services." He praised the collaboration between Germany and the World Economic Forum, noting GGTC's role in supporting digital transformation efforts across governments. The UAE's strategic vision focuses on a tech-driven government sector that promotes innovation and provides seamless services for citizens.
Børge Brende remarked on the challenges governments face in leveraging new technologies to build inclusive societies. He said, "Governments around the world are facing unprecedented challenges to leverage new technologies to build more inclusive societies at a time when public confidence is more critical than ever." The GGTC will serve as an innovation hub, empowering citizens through experimentation.
Manuel Kilian, Director-General of GGTC, emphasised international cooperation's importance in GovTech. He noted that the centre aims to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange among governments globally. Kilian acknowledged the UAE's valuable contribution through its presentation on Remote Judiciary Services, showcasing its experience in using technology for societal benefit.
During a session titled "Making Remote Judiciary Services Work," Mohammed bin Taliah shared insights from the UAE's digital transformation journey. The focus was on a Ministry of Justice project enabling fully digital court proceedings. This initiative offers a secure and efficient judicial process through advanced digital tools like UAE Pass, digital wallet, and signature solutions.
Exploring Technology's Impact on Governance
Bin Taliah also participated in discussions about key milestones in UAE’s digital transformation during a fireside chat moderated by Lars Zimmermann from GovTech Campus Germany. Additionally, he joined a panel with Eva Maydell from the European Parliament; Dr. Markus Richter; and Marc Reinhardt from Capgemini. They explored how technology can enhance governance and create public value.
The GGTC inauguration marks a significant step towards global cooperation in advancing GovTech solutions. With contributions from countries like the UAE, it aims to drive innovation and improve public services worldwide through technology.
