UAE Resident Ibrahiem Alrefai Wins Inaugural L’Étape Dubai By Tour De France Amidst Record Participation
The UAE witnessed the grand debut of L’Étape Dubai by Tour de France, the largest amateur cycling series globally. This weekend event attracted over 1,000 cyclists, ranging from hobbyists to elite athletes. It marked a record for participant numbers in any first edition of an amateur cycling event in the UAE's history.
On Sunday, February 2nd, competitors embarked on a 101 km journey starting from Dubai Design District (D3). They navigated through Dubai-Al Ain Road (E66) before Syrian national Ibrahiem Alrefai made a decisive move along Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street (D54), clinching first place at Expo Village Park. His victory was recorded at 02:17:24, followed by Ivan Kormshchikov and Danil Konotop.

Olha Shekel emerged as the top female cyclist with a time of 02:20:20. Ebtissam Zayed and Olivuja Balesisyte secured second and third places respectively. Among younger participants, 15-year-old Darcey Minton excelled in the 50 KM Ride, supported by Škoda.
Dubai's Vision for Sporting Excellence
The Dubai Sports Council strongly supported this event, aiming to position Dubai as a leading hub for international sports. Saeed Hareb highlighted the race's blend of luxury and tradition, showcasing Dubai's beauty alongside the prestigious Tour de France name.
A Unique Cycling Experience
Cyclists experienced intense competition while enjoying scenic routes through Dubai Design District and Al Marmoom area. The latter boasts the world's largest nature conservation reserve with international-level cycling tracks amidst artificial lakes, culminating at Expo City Dubai.
Jozef Pukalovic, organiser of L’Étape Dubai, expressed pride in bringing this event to the UAE. He noted its success in delivering an authentic Tour de France experience and anticipates even greater achievements in future editions.
As cyclists completed their journey, L’Étape Dubai established itself as a key event in the UAE’s sporting calendar. Beyond just a race, it celebrated endurance and community spirit while fostering a growing passion for cycling across the region. With such initiatives, Dubai is paving the way for a vibrant cycling culture that inspires both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike.
