UAE's Pioneering Rain Enhancement Program Takes Centre Stage At Baku Water Week 2024

The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) is set to make a significant appearance at the International Exhibition and Conference for Water Management, also known as Baku Water Week. This event, scheduled from 12th to 14th March at the Baku Expo Center in Azerbaijan, serves as a platform for UAEREP to further its mission of enhancing rain enhancement science through global collaboration.

During the exhibition, UAEREP Director Alya Al Mazroui will engage in a panel discussion titled ‘Technological Innovation in Water Management’ with other water resource management executives and experts. The discussion will explore various water management strategies such as desalination, wastewater reuse, rainwater collection, and rain enhancement technologies. This comes at a time when Azerbaijan is exploring alternative water resources to address its semi-arid conditions, which result in less than 450 mm of rainfall annually.

UAE Rain Enhancement at Baku Water Week

Following the initiation of the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, UAEREP aims to expand its influence in the global rain enhancement sector. Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director-General of the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) and President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), emphasized the importance of Baku Water Week as an opportunity to advance global water security collaboration. He highlighted NCM’s commitment to sharing experiences and driving innovation to tackle water challenges worldwide.

Al Mazroui expressed enthusiasm about UAEREP’s participation in Baku Water Week, viewing it as a crucial step towards sustained progress and knowledge exchange in rain enhancement research. The event is seen as an avenue for initiating dialogue among industry leaders and spotlighting innovative solutions to global water scarcity issues.

Baku Water Week is recognized as a pivotal gathering for organizations, government bodies, and foreign investors interested in water resource management cooperation and long-term partnerships. These collaborations are expected to contribute to regional industry development and discussions on climate challenges and new projects.

With COP29 on the horizon in Baku, UAEREP’s involvement in this exhibition positions it for impactful engagement at the upcoming UN climate change conference. It also offers an opportunity for UAEREP to share and discuss the latest advancements in rain enhancement research and technology, positioning itself as a leader in water security efforts.
