Presidents Of UAE And Republic Of Korea Discuss Opportunities To Strengthen Special Strategic Partnership In Seoul
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol met in Seoul to enhance the Special Strategic Partnership between their nations. The leaders discussed regional and international issues, aiming to expand bilateral cooperation across various fields.
The meeting took place at the Office of the President in Seoul, with delegations from both countries present. This event was part of Sheikh Mohamed's state visit to South Korea. President Yoon welcomed Sheikh Mohamed, expressing optimism that the visit would bolster UAE-Korean relations, aligning with both nations' vision for sustainable prosperity.
The leaders reviewed existing and potential cooperation in economy, investment, conventional and clean energy, peaceful nuclear energy, and defence technology. They also explored opportunities in science, technology, sustainability, and culture. The discussions aimed to advance mutual interests and meet current and future needs.
Both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues, emphasising the importance of supporting efforts to promote peace, stability, and development in the Middle East. They stressed the need for global cooperation to build bridges of communication and collaboration for inclusive development.
Commitment to Expanding Bilateral Relations
During the talks, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding UAE-Korean cooperation. Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the deep strategic relations between the two countries, based on common interests and mutual respect. He noted their successful partnership on the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant since 2009.
Sheikh Mohamed emphasised his aspiration for continued collaboration to achieve sustainable development for both nations. He mentioned that upcoming agreements would cover energy, climate change, infrastructure, trade, technology, and industry. These agreements reflect the UAE's approach to building development partnerships with like-minded countries.
Message of Gratitude and Future Aspirations
Marking his visit, Sheikh Mohamed penned a message in the official guest book, expressing his pleasure at visiting South Korea. He noted that both countries are ambitious models of development with steadily advancing relations. He thanked President Yoon and the Korean people for their warm welcome and wished them continued progress.
Luncheon Hosted by President Yoon
President Yoon hosted a luncheon in honour of Sheikh Mohamed and his delegation. Attendees included H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi; Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber; Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi; Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak; Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi; and other delegation members.
On the Korean side, several ministers and senior officials attended the discussions and luncheon.
