UAE Concludes Successful Term Representing Arab Group In IPU With Significant Achievements
The UAE Parliamentary Division recently concluded its term representing the Arab Group on the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). This period was marked by notable achievements. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who chairs the UAE Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council to the IPU, presented a comprehensive report detailing these accomplishments during a coordination meeting of the Arab Group.
Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the UAE Parliamentary Division by the Arab Parliamentary Group. Since 2022, they have represented the group on the Executive Committee for four years. He emphasised the UAE's proactive involvement in parliamentary diplomacy at IPU events and its strong alliances with various parliaments and geopolitical groups within the IPU.

The report outlined several key contributions made by the UAE during its representation. These efforts focused on supporting Arab positions, enhancing Arab influence in international parliamentary decision-making, and improving IPU performance across different levels. The UAE’s active participation has been instrumental in these areas.
One significant role played by the Arab Group representative was chairing the Sub-Committee on Financial Affairs. They also engaged in discussions about proposed amendments to IPU Statutes, contributed to developing a Code of Conduct for officials, supported an anti-harassment policy, and suggested creating an independent Oversight and Ethics Committee to enhance institutional governance within the Union.
The report also highlighted support for hosting international parliamentary events in the Arab region. Notable events included a parliamentary meeting held alongside COP28 Climate Conference, another accompanying the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference, and an Executive Committee meeting — all hosted by the Federal National Council in the UAE. These initiatives underscore the region’s increasing role in global parliamentary matters.
Dr. Al Nuaimi underscored that these efforts reflect a growing regional influence on global parliamentary agendas. The UAE’s active engagement has been crucial in promoting Arab interests and strengthening their presence in international forums.
"The UAE has played a pivotal role in advancing parliamentary diplomacy," said Dr. Al Nuaimi during his presentation at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he delivered this report on Friday at an Arab Group coordination meeting held alongside the 150th IPU General Assembly.
The conclusion of this term marks a significant milestone for both the UAE Parliamentary Division and its representation of Arab interests within IPU frameworks. Their contributions have set a foundation for continued collaboration and influence on international platforms.
