UAE Increases Humanitarian Support With Food Aid For Sudanese Refugees In Uganda
The United Arab Emirates has delivered 30,000 food packages to Sudanese refugees in Uganda's Kiryandongo Refugee Camp. This initiative, targeting 100,000 individuals, is part of the UAE's second phase of humanitarian aid for Sudanese refugees, which began in April 2024.
Abdalla Hassan Al Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Uganda, was present during the aid distribution. He was joined by senior Ugandan officials and local community leaders. Al Shamsi praised the UAE's efforts in supporting Sudanese refugees.

Al Shamsi emphasised the need for global unity during crises. He highlighted the UAE's consistent approach under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE aims to support communities affected by disasters without discrimination.
The ambassador also stressed the UAE's dedication to collaborating with international partners. This collaboration focuses on enhancing government and community capacities worldwide.
The relief effort is part of a larger commitment by the UAE to provide USD 100 million in aid for humanitarian projects in Sudan. This pledge was announced at an international conference held in Paris.
Al Shamsi expressed hope that this emergency food aid would support affected Sudanese families, including children and adults. He assured continued assistance to Sudanese people in neighbouring countries like Uganda until peace returns to Sudan.
International Recognition
Balaam Barugahara, Uganda's Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, praised the UAE's contribution. He stated, "This generous contribution is an extension of the steadfast UAE initiatives in humanitarian and development work, reinforced by international efforts aiming to mitigate the suffering of refugees within several host countries, including Uganda."
The UAE's humanitarian plan includes future projects such as drilling eight water wells and building 16 health facilities at Kiryandongo Refugee Camp. These projects aim to improve living conditions for Sudanese refugees.
This comprehensive approach underscores the UAE’s commitment to aiding those in need while fostering international cooperation for sustainable development and peace restoration efforts.
