UAE Reaffirms Commitment To Climate Action And Multilateral Cooperation At UNFCCC SB62
The United Arab Emirates recently wrapped up its involvement in the 62nd Session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB62) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn, Germany. Leading the UAE delegation was Abdulla Ahmed Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability. He reiterated the UAE's dedication to advancing outcomes from COP28 and supporting progress towards COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
Throughout SB62, the UAE actively participated in various negotiation paths. These included climate finance, the Global Goal on Adaptation, and transparency arrangements under the Paris Agreement. The delegation also engaged in over 25 side events and panel discussions. They highlighted strategies in clean energy, artificial intelligence, and innovative climate finance solutions.

Balalaa emphasised that the UAE is committed to supporting multilateral processes and building consensus for practical climate solutions. He highlighted the importance of inclusivity achieved at COP28. This was evident through the UAE's constructive engagement in discussions and efforts to bridge diverse perspectives.
The Ministry of Culture organised a cultural event during SB62 under the Adaptation agenda. This event showcased how heritage and traditional knowledge contribute to building climate resilience. It underscored the UAE’s comprehensive approach to sustainable development.
Looking forward, the UAE will continue its role within the COP Troika alongside Azerbaijan and Brazil. The aim is to ensure that COP30 delivers ambitious outcomes on adaptation indicators and just transition frameworks. This aligns with the UAE to Belém Roadmap and Just Transition Work Programme.
The country is also preparing to co-host the 2026 United Nations Water Conference with Senegal. This reflects its commitment to climate resilience and water security. Balalaa stated, "SB62 represents an important platform to maintain momentum and support convergence on key priorities."
