UAE And Rajasthan Collaborate On 60 GW Renewable Energy Project In India
The UAE has entered into a memorandum of investment with Rajasthan to explore a 60 GW renewable energy project. This initiative will focus on solar, wind, and hybrid energy in Rajasthan's western region. The agreement builds on the existing cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Investment and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Both Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Shri Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary of Industries for Rajasthan, signed this significant memorandum. The collaboration aims to introduce top-tier renewable technologies to establish a long-term energy plant in Rajasthan. The UAE will select a developer to work closely with Indian authorities on this project.

The UAE is committed to sustainable energy solutions as part of its diversification strategy. Mohamed Alsuwaidi stated, "Meeting tomorrow’s energy needs through sustainable and renewable methods is essential. The UAE remains at the forefront of an ambitious diversification agenda, with energy transition as a key pillar. This project highlights our unwavering commitment to advancing clean energy solutions."
Rajasthan's climate and landmass make it ideal for testing new technologies that could shape future energy landscapes. Lal Sharma noted, "India is steadfast in its commitment to a sustainable energy future, and partnerships like this one with the UAE playing a crucial role in achieving our goals."
The UAE has set ambitious targets under its Energy Strategy 2050, planning to invest over US$163 billion by 2050. The goal is for half of its energy mix to come from clean sources by then. Additionally, the country aims for net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with global climate objectives.
India is also making significant progress in its clean energy transition. By 2030, India plans to reduce carbon intensity by 45 percent and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. Currently, non-fossil fuels account for 40 percent of India's power capacity.
India's Green Hydrogen Mission
With the US$2.4 billion National Green Hydrogen Mission, India aims to become a leader in green hydrogen production by 2030. This mission seeks to enhance India's position in the global market for green hydrogen usage and export.
This partnership between the UAE and Rajasthan represents a step towards achieving these ambitious goals. It serves as a model for innovation in renewable energy while contributing to a more sustainable world.
