UAE Public Prosecution Hosts Panel On Ethical Governance Framework For AI In Criminal Justice

The UAE Public Prosecution hosted a panel discussion at GITEX Global 2025, focusing on "Ethical Governance Framework for Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Justice." This session examined how AI applications are being integrated into the justice system, transitioning from mere usage policies to an ethical charter guiding AI's role in judicial processes.

Amira Al Wahshi, Project Manager at the UAE Public Prosecution and Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS) 2025 Project Manager, highlighted the country's leadership vision. She stated that "artificial intelligence will never replace the human element, but rather serve as an enabler that enhances efficiency and strengthens justice within a framework of transparency and responsibility."

Panel on AI Ethics in Criminal Justice

The panel addressed the rapid global advancement of AI technologies. It stressed the necessity for ethical and legislative frameworks to ensure responsible use in prosecution, investigation, and evidence handling. The aim is to protect justice from algorithmic bias while maintaining fairness.

Discussions centred on transparency, accountability, and algorithmic fairness principles. Emphasis was placed on keeping humans integral to legal processes. This ensures decisions made by intelligent systems remain accountable, human-centred, and just.

The session included international case studies and comparisons of global legal frameworks. These examples illustrated how innovation can be balanced with protecting fundamental rights. The event gathered senior leaders, experts, and specialists in law, technology, and governance.

Speakers shared strategic insights into AI's future in criminal justice. They emphasised ethical frameworks' importance in building public trust in intelligent systems based on responsibility and transparency.

Actionable Recommendations for Responsible Technology Use

The session concluded with actionable recommendations to promote responsible technology use in judicial processes. The Public Prosecution committed to translating these outcomes into policies and initiatives that support its vision of a sustainable, intelligent justice system.

This initiative is part of the Public Prosecution’s AI Strategy 2025–2030. It reaffirms the UAE’s role as a global platform for dialogue on technology and law, guided by values and the rule of law.
