UAE Public Prosecution Transforms Criminal Legislation With Digital Technology
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Public Prosecution has recently announced the completion of a significant initiative titled "Classification of Crimes and the Digitisation of Criminal Legislation in the Criminal Case Management System." This project marks a substantial step forward in the digital transformation efforts within the legal sector, utilizing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to convert legal texts into formats that can be easily understood and executed by information systems.
This initiative aligns with the UAE's strategic vision to harness all human and institutional capabilities to secure a leading position in the realm of digital transformation. The project saw the collaboration of specialized teams, including 30 prosecutors and seven technicians from the Information Technology Department. Together, they have invested a total of 3,821 working hours to meticulously scrutinize, individualize, and encode laws into this innovative system.

The outcome of this extensive effort is the digitization of over 17 federal laws and the detailed classification of 32,000 criminal charges. This encompasses a wide array of acts, penalties, and various legal circumstances, thereby enhancing the speed, efficiency, and transparency of the penal system through the adoption of modern technologies.
Furthermore, this project is set to significantly improve judicial processes by advancing digital systems and transformation. It aims to automate tasks and procedures, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and enable electronic systems to function independently without human intervention. The initiative also seeks to facilitate electronic communication with strategic partners and streamline searches within legal frameworks.
The Public Prosecution has highlighted that this project will serve as a model for future legislation, adapting to the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. By doing so, it not only strengthens the UAE's position as a global hub for digital governance but also propels its judicial system into a new era of efficiency and innovation.
