UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Visits Mohamed Bin Zayed University Of Artificial Intelligence

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, recently toured the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. During his visit, he explored the university's departments and facilities, gaining insights into its academic offerings and research focus areas. The tour also highlighted the university's collaborations with global institutions specialising in artificial intelligence research.

His Highness visited the Data Observatory at MBZUAI, where researchers showcased five AI-driven projects. These projects spanned various fields such as energy, climate, medicine, genetics, media, and robotics. Additionally, two start-ups from the university’s incubator and entrepreneurship centre presented their innovative work.

During his visit, His Highness met with Professor Eric Xing, President of MBZUAI, along with faculty members and postgraduate students. He encouraged them to continue their academic endeavours and emphasised the importance of advancing knowledge to benefit their nations and communities. His Highness stressed the university's crucial role in supporting the UAE's vision for investment in AI and advanced technology.

The President highlighted the significance of preparing national talent in AI to strengthen a knowledge-based economy. He expressed hopes that MBZUAI would contribute to a robust scientific foundation through specialised AI research and studies. His Highness also extended his appreciation to the university’s leadership and staff for their efforts.

Professor Eric Xing noted that MBZUAI has reached significant milestones since its inception. The university ranks 10th globally in fields like artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, robotics, and computational biology. He praised the continuous support from UAE leadership for these achievements.

Accompanying His Highness on this tour were several dignitaries including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister; H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber; Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak; Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei; and other senior officials.

The visit underscored MBZUAI's pivotal role in fostering innovation through AI research while aligning with UAE’s strategic goals for technological advancement. The university continues to be a cornerstone for nurturing talent essential for sustaining a knowledge-based economy now and into the future.
