The UAE is bracing for a spell of unstable weather, with forecasts from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) predicting rain, thunder, lightning, and hail starting Monday night. The NCM has called on residents to take necessary safety measures, particularly advising against approaching areas of flooding and water accumulation. This announcement has triggered a series of precautionary actions across various sectors to mitigate the impact of the expected adverse weather conditions.
Private Companies Urged To Follow Safety Rules
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has reached out to private sector companies, urging them to prioritize the health and safety of their workers during this period. Special emphasis has been placed on safeguarding employees’ commutes to and from work, highlighting the importance of corporate responsibility in ensuring workforce welfare amidst weather warnings.
MoHRE issued a circular that stated: “In light of the exceptional weather conditions forecasted for the UAE, and in coordination with relevant authorities across the country, we advise private sector companies to take all necessary precautions and make sure that occupational health and safety requirements are met to ensure the safety of their workers during the expected period of weather fluctuations”.
Abu Dhabi Emphasizes On Road Safety
Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has declared its preparedness to manage the forecasted weather disruptions. In collaboration with other relevant authorities, it aims to maintain community safety, emphasizing the need for drivers to adhere strictly to road safety guidelines. These include respecting speed limits and maintaining adequate distance between vehicles to prevent accidents in slippery conditions.
Dubai Instructs Remote Working
Meanwhile, Dubai has taken the significant step of mandating all private schools to switch to remote learning, reflecting the seriousness of the expected weather conditions. Government bodies in the emirate have also been instructed to facilitate work-from-home arrangements for their employees, aiming to minimize the necessity for travel during the unstable weather. Dubai's Crown Prince made the announcement on X after the Emirates School Education Foundation's announcement came, directing all public schools in UAE to operate remotely.
Sharjah Implements Closure Of Sporting Events
In Sharjah, the Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Team has implemented the distance learning system for all private schools and higher education institutions. Additionally, it has postponed all sports events and competitions overseen by the Sharjah Sports Council as a precautionary measure. The local authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation closely, ensuring that essential services remain unaffected.
Ras Al Khaimah Announces Closure Of Parks
The Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Team in Ras Al Khaimah has decided to shift schools to distance learning for two days — Tuesday and Wednesday — in anticipation of the weather situation. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Services in Ras Al Khaimah has confirmed the closure of all parks in the emirate until the weather conditions subside. This decision is made to ensure the safety of the city and its residents, as well as the continuity of asset services.
