UAE Gears Up For Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Through Expanded Qualification Pathways

UAE sport bodies are stepping up work for the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games. The event takes place in Senegal from 31 October to 13 November. It will be the first Youth Olympic Games held in Africa, with about 25 sports and nearly 2,700 athletes.

Officials view Dakar 2026 as a major stage for emerging UAE talent. The UAE National Olympic Committee, in coordination with national sports federations, is focusing on early qualification plans, athlete eligibility for those born in 2009 and 2010, and international ranking requirements across several disciplines.

UAE Eyes Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics

Asian championships remain central to the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games qualification route for UAE teams. Youth squads are targeting quota spots and ranking points. Sports including athletics, taekwondo, boxing, judo, shooting and triathlon are expected to lead the UAE effort, reflecting broader depth in the national youth programme.

Results from the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain in 2025 have supported the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games campaign. UAE athletes collected 31 medals there, alongside crucial ranking points used in qualification calculations. Officials consider this performance an important boost to confidence for both federations and athletes.

Several UAE federations are already deep into Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games planning. Badminton player Ryan Malhan has secured a place, giving the delegation its first confirmed qualifier. Equestrian and athletics bodies are running intensive training and competition schedules designed to match international standards for youth categories.

In equestrian sport, board member Sultan Al Yahyai of the UAE Equestrian Federation said youth preparation is a top concern. Recent international show jumping meetings, which included nine Emirati riders, have offered valuable competition exposure. These events are feeding into selection decisions for Dakar 2026 squads.

Athletics Secretary General Faisal Al Khameeri stated that integrated physical and technical programmes are underway for Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games. These programmes aim to help athletes reach qualification marks. Work also covers monitoring age eligibility, ensuring those born in 2009 and 2010 follow tailored training plans.

The UAE has appeared at every Youth Olympic Games since the first edition in 2010. The country claimed its first medal at Buenos Aires 2018. Dakar 2026 now represents another step for a new generation of UAE athletes looking to progress towards future Olympic participation.
