UAE Ministry Of Interior Unveils Phased Plan For Resuming Drone Operations Starting November 2024
The Ministry of Interior, alongside the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and the General Civil Aviation Authority, has announced a phased easing of drone activity restrictions. This initiative prioritises airspace safety and the protection of society, individuals, and property. The decision will be effective from 25th November 2024, requiring entities to familiarise themselves with all requirements via the UAE Drones mobile app or website.
During a press conference at Abu Dhabi Police College, Colonel Jamal Al Hosani from the Ministry of Interior and Eng. Ammar Al Mazrouei from the General Civil Aviation Authority addressed media representatives and officials. They discussed plans for a unified national platform for drones. This platform aims to streamline registration, regulate usage, and clarify operational guidelines by centralising procedures.

The initial phase of this platform will launch on 25th November 2024, targeting companies and government agencies. Future phases will extend services to other users like amateur drone operators, with timelines to be announced later. This initiative supports the advancement of the drone sector, fostering innovation and economic growth in industries adopting this technology.
Aligning with national objectives such as "We the Emirates 2031" and UAE Centennial 2071, this move is crucial for driving progress in the drone industry. The General Civil Aviation Authority encourages companies, government institutions, and research entities to apply for operational permits through the UAE Drones smart application.
Applicants must follow outlined steps within the application to secure approval. Operators need to ensure their drones have a remote identification broadcast system. For drones without this feature, operators can contact Etisalat via email at [email protected] for a suitable tracking device.
For registration inquiries, users can email [email protected]. Airspace-related permissions can be requested via [email protected]. Technical assistance is available through [email protected], while general questions can be directed to 02 8140404.
Incident Reporting
All drone-related incidents causing harm or posing risks must be reported to ensure public safety and protect property. Users can submit incident reports through the "Incident Report" section on the UAE Drones platform by completing required forms and providing necessary information. This reporting system aims to enhance drone safety standards while safeguarding individuals and property.
This comprehensive approach not only facilitates safe drone operations but also aligns with broader national goals by promoting technological advancement within regulated frameworks.
