UAE Permanent Human Rights Committee Conducts Workshop On Tracking International Human Rights Recommendations

The UAE Permanent Human Rights Committee (PHRC), in partnership with the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), hosted a five-day workshop. This event, titled "The System for Tracking, Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up, and Mechanisms for Developing National Action Plans to Implement Recommendations Issued by International Human Rights Mechanisms," aimed to enhance human rights practices.

Aisha Al Mansoori, Deputy Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed attendees on behalf of the PHRC’s secretariat. She highlighted that this collaborative workshop demonstrates the UAE's dedication to working with the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights. The focus is on sharing human rights information and best practices to bolster PHRC's capabilities.

UAE Hosts Workshop on Human Rights Tracking

Al Mansoori stressed that the UAE remains committed to advancing and safeguarding human rights domestically. The nation aims to collaborate with regional and international partners to share knowledge and uphold optimal standards. The PHRC is tasked with ensuring that international recommendations from various UN bodies are implemented within the UAE.

The workshop was led by experts Lyn Eid and Artur Latsvych from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. They covered international standards for preparing periodic reports for the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and discussed general comments issued by CRC. This training aimed at enhancing members' skills in using systems for tracking and implementing recommendations from international human rights mechanisms.

Established by the UAE Cabinet in 2019, PHRC functions as a national mechanism for implementing, reporting, and following up on human rights issues. It serves as a liaison center for these matters within the country. The committee collaborates with relevant regional and international organizations, conducting annual workshops and events to raise awareness and promote national capacities in human rights.

The workshop also focused on equipping participants with tools for planning, follow-up, reporting, and database management related to human rights recommendations. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure effective implementation of international human rights standards within the UAE.

Through these initiatives, PHRC continues its mission to strengthen national capacities in human rights while fostering cooperation with global partners. This approach ensures that UAE remains aligned with international benchmarks in protecting and promoting human rights across various sectors.
