UAE Pavilion Celebrates Two Million Visitors With Tanabata Festival Inspired Celebration
The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, recently celebrated a significant achievement by welcoming its two millionth visitor. This milestone highlights the Pavilion's role as a hub for inspiration and cultural exchange. The occasion was marked with festivities inspired by Japan's Tanabata Festival, emphasizing shared experiences and hopes for the future.
Visitors participated in the celebration by writing their wishes for a brighter future on specially designed Tanzaku cards. These cards were then hung on the Pavilion’s outdoor signage. Tanabata, a cherished Japanese festival, involves writing wishes on colourful strips and hanging them on bamboo branches, symbolizing hopes being carried to the sky.
The UAE Pavilion is designed under the theme 'Earth to Ether,' offering a multi-sensory experience across five thematic zones. These zones reflect the UAE’s heritage, ambition, and innovation. Visitors have praised its storytelling, architecture, and hospitality, highlighting the UAE’s dedication to fostering international partnerships and dialogue.
Shihab Alfaheem, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Japan and Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, expressed his gratitude: "We are deeply honoured to have welcomed two million visitors to the UAE Pavilion. This reflects the world's interest, trust, and connection with the UAE’s journey. By celebrating this milestone during Tanabata, we not only honoured a cherished Japanese tradition but also embraced the spirit of cultural exchange that defines Expo 2025. Our Pavilion continues to be a living space of ideas, creativity and shared values."
Since opening in April, the UAE Pavilion has hosted numerous events and cultural showcases. These include expert talks, performances, workshops, Emirati cuisine demonstrations, and exhibitions by Emirati artists. Each event is curated to engage diverse audiences and provide insights into the UAE’s culture and collaborative spirit.
The celebrations drew thousands of participants who hung their wishes on palm leaves instead of bamboo. This choice echoed the symbolic date palm of the UAE Pavilion. The forecourt transformed into a vibrant display of dreams and aspirations through these activities.
Expo 2025 Osaka runs until October 13, 2025. The UAE Pavilion remains open throughout this period. It offers visitors a human-centred perspective on how nations can unite to create a better future.
