UAE Delegation Led By H.H. Sheikh Saud Al Qasimi Participates In ASEAN-GCC Summit In Malaysia

Representing President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, led the UAE delegation at the second ASEAN-GCC Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The summit, themed "Inclusivity and Sustainability," gathered leaders and representatives from member states to discuss mutual goals.

During his speech, H.H. Sheikh Saud extended greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and expressed gratitude to Malaysia for hosting the event. He stated, "We meet today not just as strategic partners, but as friends bound by shared values, mutual respect, and a common ambition to build a brighter future for our peoples."

Sheikh Saud highlighted the UAE's dedication to the ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation 2024–2028. This framework focuses on key areas such as trade, investment, energy, digital transformation, and sustainable development. He emphasised that this partnership is crucial for economic alignment and cultural exchange.

The UAE delegation included notable figures such as Sheikh Khalid bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Vice Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah’s Investment and Development Office; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; Khalil Mohammed Sharif Foulathi from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority; Dr. Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Malaysia; and Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia and ASEAN.

Sheikh Saud praised the efforts made in preparing for the summit and enhancing cooperation between GCC and ASEAN nations. He described it as a testament to what can be achieved through joint action. The UAE believes progress comes from cooperation and partnerships that transcend cultures.

He acknowledged ASEAN’s role as a symbol of progress and peace while recognising the Gulf region’s position as a gateway to Southeast Asia. "In remembering our past, honouring our partnerships, and deepening mutual understanding, we shape a future worth striving for," he said.

Opening Remarks by Malaysian Prime Minister

The summit began with remarks from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He welcomed delegates and stressed the importance of promoting economic cooperation and growth opportunities. The focus was on sustainable development amid regional and global challenges.

Sheikh Saud concluded by reaffirming the UAE's commitment as a steadfast partner in shared progress. He expressed hope that this cooperation would continue to serve as a model for regions uniting around common goals.
