UAE's Reem Al Hashimy Represents Nation At 2024 APEC Economic Leaders' Week In Peru

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, represented the UAE at the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Lima, Peru. This participation, on behalf of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, underscores the strong bilateral ties between the UAE and Peru. It also highlights the UAE's role as a dependable multilateral partner.

The UAE's involvement as a Guest of Honour at this significant event opens up new avenues for collaboration with APEC members. This includes fostering innovation and digital transformation while supporting global climate action and sustainability agendas. The visit reinforces the UAE’s commitment to multilateralism and constructive dialogue.

UAE Attends 2024 APEC Economic Leaders' Week

During a meeting chaired by President Dina Boluarte, Al Hashimy expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to the UAE. She emphasised that this engagement will boost cooperation between the UAE and APEC economies in future multilateral platforms. The UAE is recognised as a key economic partner and a modern hub for finance, trade, and investment in international forums.

Al Hashimy reiterated both nations' dedication to enhancing ties across various areas of mutual interest. These include economic development and climate action at both regional and international levels. Her discussions with H.E. Elmer Schialer, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, focused on strengthening cooperation in political and economic fields.

The theme of this year’s APEC Forum, "Empower. Include. Grow," was highlighted by Al Hashimy as crucial for driving sustainability. She stressed the importance of collaborations among member states to promote inclusive growth, support a just energy transition, and implement sustainable trade policies across Asia-Pacific.

Al Hashimy underscored COP28's significance in climate diplomacy, marked by the historic UAE Consensus signed by 198 Parties. This agreement initiated a new era in climate action. COP28 set milestones like the COP Presidencies Troika uniting COP28, COP29, and COP30 presidencies.

Commitment to Multilateral Goals

The UAE aligns its commitments with APEC’s goals of fostering inclusive growth and sustainable progress while enhancing community resilience against global challenges. Al Hashimy reaffirmed support for the COP29 presidency in Baku during her visit.

She expressed appreciation to President Boluarte and the Peruvian government for their support in advancing bilateral relations. Al Hashimy conveyed confidence that ongoing efforts to deepen UAE-Peru relations will continue offering promising opportunities for both nations.

This engagement reflects the UAE's pioneering role in addressing global issues through collaboration and dialogue within international platforms like APEC.
