UAE Participates In UN Conference To Support Landlocked Developing Countries' Development Goals
Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure for the UAE, is leading the country's delegation at a significant UN conference. This event, focusing on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), began on 5th August in Awaza, Turkmenistan, and will continue until 8th August. The conference aims to address development challenges faced by LLDCs, which are home to around 570 million people.
The UAE's participation underscores its dedication to global development efforts. Al Mazrouei highlighted that the UAE is committed to supporting international initiatives that promote sustainable development and regional economic integration. He stressed the importance of providing advanced infrastructure to help countries overcome geographical barriers and achieve prosperity.

The conference aims to foster effective partnerships and open new investment opportunities. It seeks to facilitate shared growth through the exchange of expertise among participating nations. Al Mazrouei expressed optimism that these discussions would lead to meaningful collaborations and progress in sustainable development.
A key focus of the conference is the Awaza Programme of Action (APoA) for LLDCs for the Decade 2024–2034. Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 24th December 2024, this programme outlines five priority areas aimed at addressing LLDCs' challenges. These include structural transformation, trade facilitation, transit connectivity, enhancing resilience, and monitoring implementation.
The four-day event also explores ways to enhance international partnerships and encourage smart investments. Discussions aim to facilitate free movement of transport and establish more efficient trade corridors. These efforts are crucial for improving connectivity and economic integration among landlocked nations.
On the sidelines of the conference, Al Mazrouei engaged in bilateral meetings with Rashid Meredov from Turkmenistan and Abdulkadir Uraloğlu from Türkiye. These discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and transportation sectors to serve mutual interests effectively.
The UN conference occurs once every ten years, providing a platform for LLDCs to voice their unique challenges. By highlighting these issues, the event seeks solutions that can drive transformative growth through international collaboration and strategic investments.
The UAE's involvement in this conference reflects its ongoing commitment to global development goals. By participating actively in such forums, it aims to contribute significantly towards creating opportunities for sustainable growth worldwide.
