UAE Engages In G20 Ministerial Meeting On Disaster Risk Reduction In South Africa
The United Arab Emirates, through the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), took part in the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group's fourth technical and ministerial meetings in Cape Town, South Africa. These gatherings united ministers, experts, and representatives from international and regional organisations dedicated to disaster risk reduction and community resilience.
Ali Rashid Al Neyadi, Director-General of NCEMA, led the UAE delegation. Their participation underscores the UAE's dedication to global efforts aimed at reducing disaster risks while enhancing national and regional preparedness capabilities. The delegation engaged in high-level ministerial and technical discussions on topics like early warning systems, anticipatory financing, capacity-building, and improved cooperation between governments and international bodies.

During a High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Early Warning, Al Neyadi presented the UAE’s advancements in its National Early Warning System. This system employs artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to ensure swift and accurate emergency responses. The delegation also highlighted national initiatives designed to bolster community resilience by supporting vulnerable populations through comprehensive plans that consider environmental, economic, and social factors.
NCEMA shared insights from the UAE's management of the COVID-19 pandemic through their publication titled "The Road to Success – The UAE Model in Managing the COVID-19 Crisis." This document illustrates institutional integration, anticipatory planning, and adaptive leadership in addressing global crises.
In his speech, Al Neyadi stressed that disaster risk reduction is a fundamental component of the UAE’s national strategy for security and sustainability. He highlighted the importance of strengthening international partnerships and investing in innovative solutions to enhance nations’ resilience against future challenges. Al Neyadi urged for greater integration among G20 members to standardise early warning systems globally and improve coordination during significant emergencies.
The UAE concluded its participation with several bilateral meetings with other delegations and regional organisations. These discussions aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange in disaster risk management. NCEMA reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to advancing global preparedness while building more resilient systems to tackle future crises effectively.
