UAE Parliamentary Division Participates In IPU Meeting To Address Middle East Challenges

Sara Mohammad Falaknaz, Vice Chair of the UAE Parliamentary Division in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), participated in the Committee on Middle East Questions meeting. This event was part of the 151st IPU Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland. During discussions, Falaknaz emphasised the region's current sensitive phase, marked by intricate political, security, social, and humanitarian challenges.

Falaknaz stressed the importance of wisdom and dialogue to tackle crises both regionally and globally. She noted that achieving inclusive and equitable sustainable development is crucial for ensuring stability and prosperity for people in the Middle East. Her remarks highlighted the need for cooperation and understanding to address these complex issues effectively.

The UAE has played a significant humanitarian role in supporting Palestinians in Gaza under its leadership's directives through Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. Over two years, this initiative has been implemented by land, sea, and air at a cost exceeding US$1.8 billion. The operation reflects the UAE's commitment to aiding those in need.

Falaknaz detailed various forms of assistance provided by the UAE. These include food, clothing, medical supplies, evacuation of injured individuals for treatment in the UAE, psychological support, and rehabilitation efforts. Additionally, hospitals have been expanded, health centres restored, and drinking water supplied through desalination plants.

The UAE's aid extends to education by distributing school bags and operating bakeries to meet daily needs. Vaccination campaigns for children have been conducted alongside efforts to repair wells. These initiatives demonstrate a comprehensive approach to supporting Gaza's community through essential services.

The committee meeting also reviewed a report detailing its role within the IPU framework. This includes monitoring Middle East issues and supporting peace efforts. Discussions were held on proposed amendments to the committee’s structure and rules of procedure to enhance its effectiveness.

Falaknaz highlighted that embracing dialogue is vital for addressing regional challenges effectively. The UAE's ongoing efforts underscore its dedication to fostering stability and prosperity across the Middle East through humanitarian aid and diplomatic engagement.
