UAE Parliamentary Division Stresses Coexistence, Tolerance As Keys To Global Peace

At the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, leading the Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division Group, emphasized the critical role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering a culture of coexistence and tolerance. This assembly, taking place from 23-27 March 2024, gathers hundreds of parliamentarians worldwide to deliberate on "Parliamentary diplomacy: Building bridges for peace and understanding."

Dr. Al Nuaimi articulated the evolving nature of peace in the context of globalisation, asserting it as essential for survival, social equity, and mutual understanding across diverse cultures and faiths. He underscored the responsibility of parliamentarians in amplifying the impact of parliamentary diplomacy to resolve international disputes through promoting coexistence and tolerance.

UAE Stresses Coexistence for Peace

Highlighting the duty to collaborate with various executive bodies to create laws that champion peace and harmony, Dr. Al Nuaimi pointed out the necessity of addressing poverty, discrimination, and inequality. He advocated for a collaborative framework involving civil society, academia, media, and religious and cultural organisations to enhance educational outreach and foster a dialogue-centric culture.

Addressing the challenge of overcoming polarization and international disputes, Dr. Al Nuaimi identified dialogue, tolerance, and peace as foundational pillars for human survival and growth. He stressed that cultural, civilizational, or religious diversity should be viewed as a strength that contributes to human civilization's stability through coexistence and peace.

The IPU Assembly serves as a platform for parliamentarians to engage in discussions that aim at building bridges for peace and understanding amidst growing global challenges. Through such international gatherings, the emphasis on parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for fostering global coexistence and tolerance is further solidified.
