UAE Parliamentary Division Showcases Women's Empowerment at Morocco Meeting
The Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates took a significant step forward in showcasing its commitment to women's empowerment and gender balance on an international stage. The Parliamentary Division of the FNC was represented at a crucial meeting focused on the empowerment of women in parliamentary roles across Africa and the Arab World. This meeting was part of the broader Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation, which took place in Rabat, the capital city of Morocco.
Maryam Majid bin Theneya, serving as the Second Deputy Speaker of the FNC, took this opportunity to highlight the strides the UAE has made in this vital area. During a session specifically dedicated to "The empowerment of women parliamentarians to support development and good governance in African and Arab regions," bin Theneya shared insights into the UAE's approach towards enhancing women's roles within society and governance.

One of the key initiatives mentioned was the launch of the National Policy for Empowerment of Emirati Women for the period 2023 - 2031. This ambitious policy is designed to ensure that women have equitable opportunities to participate across all sectors, thereby improving societal well-being and quality of life. Furthermore, bin Theneya shed light on the efforts of the Gender Balance Council, particularly through its introduction of the Gender Balance Guide: Actions for UAE Organisations. This guide aims to integrate gender considerations into policies and programs effectively.
The UAE's leadership in promoting gender balance and empowering women has not gone unnoticed on the global stage. Bin Theneya proudly referenced the country's top ranking in the MENA region according to the World Bank's Women, Business and the Law 2023 report. This accolade underscores the UAE's commitment to creating an inclusive environment where women can thrive in business and law, setting a benchmark for other nations within the MENA region.
The participation of the FNC's Parliamentary Division in such an important international conference underscores the UAE's proactive approach to gender balance and women's empowerment. By sharing its experiences and policies with counterparts from Africa and the Arab World, the UAE is not only highlighting its achievements but also fostering a collaborative environment for addressing common challenges related to gender equality and governance.
