UAE And Paraguay Forge Stronger Ties With Multiple MoUs Signing

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, recently visited Paraguay to strengthen ties in political, economic, and trade sectors. The visit also aimed at enhancing people-to-people connections between the UAE and Paraguay.

During her visit, Al Hashimy met with Santiago Peña, President of Paraguay. She conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in sustainability, economy, and infrastructure development. Both sides highlighted their commitment to strengthening economic and trade ties.

UAE, Paraguay Sign Key MoUs

The UAE delegation included Saeed Abdullah Al Qamzi, UAE Ambassador to Argentina and Non-Resident Ambassador to Uruguay and Paraguay. A team from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from Terminals Holding were also part of the delegation.

Al Hashimy praised Paraguay's focus on renewable energy, particularly hydropower. Paraguay generates 99 percent of its power from renewable sources, mainly through the Itaipu Dam. This positions Paraguay as a global leader in clean energy. The UAE is also committed to combating climate change while ensuring energy security, aiming for net zero by 2050 using clean energy.

She emphasised that signing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will positively impact trade and investment flows between the UAE and MERCOSUR member states. She noted Paraguay's strategic importance in South America.

Memorandum of Understanding on Agriculture

Al Hashimy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Agriculture and Food Security with Carlos Giménez Díaz, Paraguay’s Minister of Agriculture. The MoU aligns with efforts to create sustainable food systems and achieve mutual food security goals. She highlighted the UAE's commitment to collaborating with international entities for long-term food security.

"The MoU with Paraguay’s Ministry of Agriculture is in line with our efforts to create sustainable food systems," said Al Hashimy. "We look forward to working with Paraguayan counterparts to achieve mutual benefits."

Cooperation in Transportation

The visit concluded with another MoU signing between Al Hashimy and Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay. This MoU focuses on cooperation in transportation, including airport development and logistics.

Discussions also covered bilateral cooperation in logistics and transportation fields such as airports. They discussed the joint declaration on the Bi-Oceanic Corridor signed during COP28 involving the UAE, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile.

Al Hashimy also met with Rubén Ramírez Lezcano to discuss additional elements of the bilateral relationship. Both sides reaffirmed their leadership's commitment to further strengthen ties for growth and prosperity aligned with their future visions.

This visit underscores the strong relations between the two countries and their shared vision for future cooperation across various sectors.
