UAE NEP Experts Unveil Eight Innovative Solutions To National Challenges At BX Conference 2025

Eight experts from the UAE's National Experts Programme (NEP 4.0 Cohort) have presented eight innovative behavioural policy solutions at The Behavioural Exchange (BX2025). These solutions tackle significant challenges in the UAE, including education, healthcare, sustainability, cultural identity, and food security. The event is being held for the first time in the MENA region at New York University Abu Dhabi from 30th April to 1st May 2025.

The projects unveiled at BX2025 demonstrate field-tested interventions aimed at addressing national challenges. Each initiative is crafted using behavioural science methodologies and piloted during the conference. These solutions align with the UAE's strategic vision, focusing on innovation and social impact.

UAE NEP Experts Present Solutions at BX 2025

Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, Director of NEP, highlighted the proactive role of UAE NEP experts in tackling contemporary issues and crafting effective solutions in national priority areas. He stressed the importance of using behavioural science methodologies based on scientific evidence to shape policies addressing critical societal issues.

Among these projects, Khulood Alawadi's initiative focuses on empowering students by catering to their unique learning needs. Her proposal advocates for innovative, gender-responsive solutions that promote engagement, fostering both academic success and active civic participation.

Dr. Mohamed Al Ameri suggests behavioural interventions to reduce rare genetic diseases through improved premarital screening practices. Mohamed Janahi proposes a consumer behaviour strategy to boost purchases of UAE-made goods using shelf labelling, mobile nudges, and retail loyalty incentives.

Maryam Al Falasi addresses food security by proposing a national food donation system employing default prompts and behavioural incentives to minimise waste. On youth digital engagement, Faisal Al Hawi introduces a school-and-home-based programme to decrease passive screen time among children aged 6–10.

Cultural Identity and Digital Literacy

Sumaya Al Hajeri plans to launch a digital literacy campaign led by "Digital Heroes," promoting responsible social media use among UAE youth. In the culture and identity track, Rawdha Al Qubaisi suggests integrating certified Emirati cultural immersion into visa pathways and workplace onboarding to enhance long-term expat engagement.

Mohamed Alwahedi introduces a policy initiative encouraging modest "Medeem" weddings through defaults, social messaging, and community-led incentives. These initiatives reflect a commitment to preserving cultural identity while fostering social cohesion.

The NEP experts' contributions at BX2025 highlight their dedication to addressing pressing societal challenges through innovative solutions grounded in behavioural science. Their work underscores the UAE's commitment to shaping a future that prioritises innovation and social impact across various sectors.
