UAE National Team Achieves Three Medals At Jiu-Jitsu World Championship In Thailand
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team celebrated a successful day at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Bangkok, securing three more medals. This achievement coincided with the nation's Flag Day celebrations, as the national anthem was played twice during the medal ceremonies. Omar Al Suwaidi won gold in the men's -56kg category after four challenging matches, while Shamma Al Kalbani claimed gold in the women's -63kg division following her recovery from injury.
Theyab Al Nuaimi also contributed to the team's success by earning a bronze medal in the men's -56kg category after several competitive bouts. The UAE delegation has now accumulated six medals in total, comprising three gold, one silver, and two bronze. This accomplishment strengthens their position among the leading nations at the championship, which continues until 15th November.

Abdulmunem Alhashmi, Chairman of both the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations and Senior Vice-President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, congratulated the athletes on their victories. He described these achievements as "a priceless gift to the nation on this special day." Alhashmi commended the team’s professionalism and national pride, expressing optimism for further successes in upcoming events.
Fahad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of both federations, echoed these sentiments by highlighting how proud these results make the UAE. "Our athletes delivered a heroic performance, demonstrating the hard work and preparation of the past two months. This success, coming on Flag Day, reflects the spirit of unity and excellence that defines our nation," he stated.
World champion Faisal Al Ketbi, who heads National Teams at the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, emphasized that these results validate their development strategy. "These victories highlight the strength of our national programme and the unwavering support of our leadership, which motivates our athletes to keep raising the UAE flag high," he said.
Gold medallist Omar Al Suwaidi dedicated his triumph to both UAE’s leadership and its people. He remarked on facing four tough matches against world-class opponents but credited his success to strong preparation and focus. "I am proud to raise our flag on the international stage," he expressed.
Shamma Al Kalbani shared that her victory held special significance after overcoming an injury. She stated: "I dedicate this medal to our leadership and everyone who supported me. This title motivates me to keep improving and representing the UAE with pride."
