UAE Airlines Expand To 606 Global Destinations As Travel Demand Soars
The UAE's national airlines are broadening their reach, driven by the country's robust global tourism and business reputation alongside a resurgence in travel demand. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) anticipates passenger traffic to hit 140 million, reflecting the ongoing growth and competitiveness of UAE airlines.
Emirates currently operates across 144 passenger and cargo destinations on six continents. The airline is working to increase seat capacity to meet rising travel demand and provide flexibility for travellers passing through Dubai. Emirates will fly its upgraded Boeing 777 aircraft to Zurich and Riyadh in early October, adding Geneva and Brussels later. This is part of a US$3 billion programme to modernise 80 more Boeing 777 aircraft, aiming to enhance passenger experience significantly.

Etihad Airways has been expanding its network since the start of this year, with plans to reach over 125 destinations by 2030. Leveraging its strategic location between Asia and Europe, the airline aims to increase its annual passenger count to over 33 million. Several new destinations are expected this year after launching 15 new routes last year, including Lisbon, Copenhagen, Calcutta, and Osaka.
In the first seven months of 2024, Etihad Airways carried 10.4 million passengers and expanded its fleet to 93 aircraft by July's end, up from 78 in July 2023. The airline added ten new destinations this year. In the first half of 2024, Etihad reported a net profit after tax of AED 851 million, a 48 percent increase year-on-year, with revenues growing by 21 percent to AED 11.7 billion.
flydubai operates flights to 125 destinations in 58 countries across Africa, Central Asia, Central and South East Europe, the GCC, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent and South East Asia with a fleet of 88 Boeing 737 aircraft. Recently launched regular flights include EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg four times a week. This makes flydubai the first national airline to operate direct flights from Dubai to this destination.
flydubai's Network Expansion
The airline expects seven new aircraft deliveries by year-end and plans to hire over 130 new pilots to support network expansion. New destinations include Basel, Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius. flydubai’s European network now includes cities like Budapest, Catania, Krakow, Milan-Bergamo, Prague, Salzburg and Zagreb.
Air Arabia Group operates an extensive network with 218 destinations across six strategic hubs: UAE (113 locations), Morocco, Egypt, and Pakistan. In the first half of 2024 alone, Air Arabia reported a net profit of AED 693 million while serving 8.9 million passengers—a notable increase of 16 percent from last year. The seat occupancy rate remained strong at an impressive rate of 81 percent.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi's Modern Fleet
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi continues expanding operations with a portfolio of 40 destinations supported by a modern fleet aimed at sustainability. This expansion aligns with their ambitious plans for launching flights to new locations.
Official data shows that UAE national carriers now serve about 606 destinations worldwide—including joint and cargo routes—marking a rise from the previous year's total of 586 destinations. Emirates leads with over 144 destinations followed by Etihad Airways at 79 destinations; flydubai at 125; Air Arabia at an impressive count of 218; Wizz Air Abu Dhabi rounds out with around forty.
The UAE’s aviation sector remains competitive globally due to continuous route expansions by its national carriers such as Emirates Airlines' extensive network or Etihad Airways' strategic growth plans targeting increased passenger counts annually.
