UAE National Anti-Doping Agency Participates In Adoption Of 2027 World Anti-Doping Code In South Korea
The UAE National Anti-Doping Agency took part in the 2025 World Conference on Doping in Sport, hosted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Busan, South Korea, from December 1 to 5. The event gathered government officials, national anti-doping bodies, sports federations, and top international labs to discuss the future of clean sport.
During the conference, delegates formally adopted the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and updated International Standards. This marked a significant step towards enhancing global anti-doping governance. The conference also issued the Busan Declaration, which outlined key strategic priorities to protect sporting integrity and athletes' rights worldwide.

Dr. Mai Al Jaber, Chair of the Board of the National Anti-Doping Agency, spoke during the national statements session. She reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to developing a world-class anti-doping framework that aligns with top international standards. Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the importance of hosting the Asia and Oceania Ministers’ Meeting earlier this year in advancing regional cooperation.
The UAE delegation was led by Ghanem Al Hajeri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports. It included Dr. Mai Al Jaber; Rafia Al Owais, Vice Chair; and Dr. Amr Adel, Technical Director. They engaged in high-level meetings with WADA representatives, the International Testing Agency (ITA), national anti-doping organisations, and directors of international laboratories.
Dr. Al Jaber emphasised that participating in the conference strengthens the UAE's role within the global anti-doping community. It supports developing new strategic partnerships and provides insight into requirements for implementing the 2027 Code. She noted that updating national regulations to align with this new Code is underway.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in testing, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and educational initiatives. Participants also explored advancements in testing methods, education strategies, results management, investigations, and scientific updates to the 2026 Prohibited List.
Global Efforts for Clean Sport
The conference concluded with a strong call for unified international efforts to ensure effective implementation of the 2027 global anti-doping programme. The UAE is enhancing its testing, investigative processes, and educational programmes to safeguard sport integrity nationwide.
