UAE Ministry Partners With Pole Position To Foster Electric Vehicle Engineering Talent
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates has embarked on a strategic partnership with Dubai's Pole Position, a motorsports and automotive events agency, to support the UAE Greenpower STEM Education Programme. This innovative initiative engages students in building electric cars and competing to create the most energy-efficient vehicle. On March 20, participants from GEMS Winchester School had a dialogue with Sharif Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, sharing their insights and excitement for the programme and the anticipated Race Finals in May 2024.
During a visit to GEMS Winchester School in November 2023, representatives from the Ministry were impressed by the students' dedication to constructing their Greenpower car. This visit solidified their decision to back the programme and aim for its expansion across schools in the UAE. The initiative, initiated in 2023 with the support of the Greenpower Education Trust in the UK, has seen ten teams from GEMS Schools, comprising students aged 11-16, engage in this educational journey since September.
The culmination of their efforts will be showcased at the Race Finals, featuring two 60-minute races to determine the most efficient electric vehicle. Awards will be presented for First, Second, and Third Place, alongside recognitions for the Most Sustainable Team and Best Team Spirit. The programme not only fosters an understanding of science, engineering, and environmental stewardship but also promotes teamwork and encourages female participation in engineering fields.
Al Olama emphasized the programme's role in nurturing future innovators and sustainability advocates. He expressed confidence in the excitement surrounding the Race Finals and extended best wishes to all participants. Ryan Trutch, Founder and CEO of Pole Position, expressed gratitude towards the Ministry's support and highlighted the programme's success in fostering enthusiasm among students towards engineering careers within the electric vehicle and motorsports industries.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Pole Position signifies a significant step towards enhancing STEM education within the UAE. By supporting initiatives like the Greenpower STEM Education Programme, they aim to inspire a new generation of engineers and environmental stewards ready to tackle global challenges through innovative solutions.
