UAE Ministry Of Economy Partners With UICCA To Launch Circular Economy Cycle For Sustainable Innovation

The UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA) and the UAE Ministry of Economy (MOEC) have agreed to collaborate on promoting the circular economy. This partnership aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship through the Circular Economy Cycle of the UICCA Launchpad Programme. The agreement outlines a strategic framework to support climate-focused startups, enhancing market access for green technologies.

The collaboration between UICCA and MOEC is designed to drive sustainable economic growth by creating a supportive environment for climate-focused businesses. The Ministry will promote the programme, engage investors, and align regulations to strengthen market access for green technologies. This initiative was formalised during Investopia 2025 in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of UICCA, emphasised the importance of scaling circular economy solutions. She stated that adopting principles like reducing waste and reusing materials positions the UAE as a leader in sustainable development. "Scaling circular economy solutions is a fundamental driver of the UAE’s sustainable economic vision," she said.

The Circular Economy Cycle within the UICCA Launchpad Programme offers a platform for innovators to develop climate solutions. It empowers entrepreneurs to tackle environmental challenges while delivering economic benefits through sustainable business models. The programme provides resources, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities to accelerate innovations aligned with the UAE’s sustainability goals.

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri highlighted that the UAE has made significant progress in transitioning to a circular economy model. He noted that this model is crucial for sustainability and economic growth. The UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031 includes 22 policies across four sectors: Manufacturing, Food, Infrastructure, and Transportation.

Investopia's Global Platform

Investopia serves as a global platform where decision-makers discuss innovative economic solutions. The launch of the Circular Economy Cycle at Investopia 2025 reaffirms the UAE's commitment to developing circular economic models and supporting sustainable projects. Bin Touq stated, "The signing of the MoU between the Ministry of Economy and UICCA is a pivotal step towards accelerating the adoption of circular economy concepts."

Following this partnership, UICCA announced that its Circular Economy Cycle will start in May 2025. This zero-equity programme supports early-stage ventures focused on waste elimination or repurposing across industries. Applications are open to local and international start-ups from 27 February 2025.

Addressing Funding Challenges

Recognising challenges faced by climate-tech start-ups, UICCA hosted a roundtable at Investopia 2025. The session presented findings from their policy brief on bridging financial gaps in the UAE climate-tech ecosystem. It identified funding challenges for growth-stage operations despite strong early-stage support.

The policy brief recommended establishing scale-up funds, incentivising private investment in climate-tech businesses, streamlining regulatory frameworks, and fostering regional market integration for cross-border growth opportunities.

UICCA remains committed to supporting accelerator participants beyond their start-up phase, helping them navigate scaling complexities for long-term impact.
