UAE And Malta Strengthen Bilateral Ties During First Joint Committee Meeting In Abu Dhabi
The UAE-Malta Joint Committee's inaugural meeting took place in Abu Dhabi, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ahmed bin Ali AlSayegh, Minister of State, and Dr. Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta, led the discussions. Senior officials from both nations participated in the event.
During the meeting, both parties discussed enhancing partnerships in strategic areas such as investment, digital economy, agriculture, e-government services, culture, renewable energy and climate change. They also focused on healthcare and pharmaceutical technologies in space, education and higher education, and tourism.

AlSayegh highlighted the strong relationship between the UAE and Malta. He noted their mutual cooperation across various sectors. "The commencement of the first session of the UAE-Malta Joint Committee reflects our mutual commitment to enhance bilateral relations and extend them to incorporate additional areas of common interest," he stated.
The discussions also covered innovative strategies to boost bilateral trade. Both sides aimed to strengthen collaboration between public and private sectors to identify new cooperation opportunities. The focus was on advancing economic ties and exploring new avenues for partnership.
The two countries explored additional collaboration areas like exchanging best practices in combating terrorism financing. They also discussed judicial cooperation, cybersecurity, and coordination on bilateral and multilateral levels.
Dr. Borg expressed Malta’s eagerness to strengthen economic ties with the UAE. He emphasised expanding cooperation in both traditional and emerging sectors. This aligns with their shared vision for sustainable economic development.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
The session concluded with signing the minutes of the Joint Committee officially. This marked a significant step forward in advancing the UAE-Malta partnership. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to achieving sustainable economic growth together.
