UAE's Commitment To Environmental Preservation Highlighted By Minister Dr. Amna Al Dahak
The United Arab Emirates has earned a notable global standing in environmental protection and sustainability. This reputation is built on a legacy of stewardship and a forward-thinking vision for the future, according to Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment.
Dr. Al Dahak emphasised that environmental preservation has been a national priority for the UAE. This commitment is deeply rooted in the principles established by the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His dedication to balancing development with nature continues to guide the UAE’s environmental policies.

During her discussion with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025, Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the UAE's achievements in biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration. The nation has made significant efforts to protect and reintroduce endangered species while establishing 49 protected areas that now cover 15.5% of its total land area.
The hosting of the IUCN World Conservation Congress underlines the UAE's commitment to global environmental dialogue. This event, held under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, showcases the country's leadership in this field.
Dr. Al Dahak noted that the UAE has become a hub for international collaboration on climate and nature issues. The country builds on major global milestones like COP28, which uniquely integrated climate and biodiversity goals within a single framework. This approach reflects the UAE’s strategic vision for a sustainable and resilient future.
The UAE's efforts in environmental protection are not only about preserving its natural heritage but also about fostering international cooperation to address global challenges. By hosting significant events and participating in international dialogues, the UAE continues to play a pivotal role in shaping global environmental policies.
