UAE Recognized As A Global Leader In Promoting Safe And Decent Working Conditions

The Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) recently lauded the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its exemplary role in ensuring safe, decent, and respectful working conditions for its workforce. This commendation comes in light of the UAE's robust legal framework and initiatives aimed at creating a comprehensive system that not only protects workers' rights but also aligns with its international human rights obligations.

Marking International Workers' Day on 1 May, Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Kaabi, President of UAHR, praised the UAE's efforts towards establishing an integrated system that upholds the human and social rights of workers. These efforts reflect the vision of the nation's leadership to enhance respect for workers' rights across the board.

UAE Leads in Worker Safety

Dr. Al Kaabi underscored the UAE's dedication to leveraging all available resources and capabilities to improve working conditions and achieve its primary objectives in the realm of labour rights. She pointed out the UAE's top rankings in several global indicators that underscore its leadership in this area.

Notably, the UAE was ranked first globally in the "Talent Attractiveness Index" as per the Global Prosperity Index 2023 by the UK's Legatum Institute. It also received high marks for "low cost of termination of service" in the Global Innovation Index 2022 by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Furthermore, in the World Competitiveness Ranking 2022 issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, the UAE excelled in indicators such as "few labour disputes", "low costs of compensating for termination of worker's services", and "working hours".

In her concluding remarks, Dr. Al Kaabi expressed her gratitude towards all workers for their significant contributions to national development and global leadership. She reiterated the importance of respecting their dignity, securing their rights, and promoting their well-being for a brighter future.

The UAE's commitment to enhancing labour rights and working conditions is a testament to its leadership's vision and dedication to human rights and social welfare. These achievements not only position the UAE as a global leader in labour rights but also serve as a model for other nations striving to improve their workforce's working conditions.
