Global Leaders Commend UAE For Spearheading Future Of Trade At WTO MC13
The United Arab Emirates has received commendation from various Ministers of Trade and Industry for its exemplary role in hosting the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13) from February 26 to March 1, 2024, in Abu Dhabi. The conference served as a pivotal platform for reviewing the multilateral trading system's functionality and setting the course for the World Trade Organization's future endeavors. The event underscored the UAE's pivotal position in the global economic arena, showcasing its impactful financial services and monetary policies that bolster global trade and business sectors.
Manoa Kamikamica, Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji, expressed gratitude towards the UAE for uniting countries to uphold a rules-based multilateral trading system. He noted the UAE's significant contribution to the global trade landscape. Similarly, Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Oman's Minister of Commerce, recognized the UAE's effective facilitation of constructive dialogue amidst current geopolitical tensions. Ryad Mezzour, Morocco's Minister of Industry and Trade, highlighted the conference's role in discussing fairer trade measures and praised the UAE for its capability to host such major events.

The conference focused on deliberating over the governance of global trade activities, seeking ways to boost cooperation for a more efficient trading system, and enhancing the participation of developing and least developed countries in global trade. Mohamed Al Ashwwal, Yemen's Minister of Industry and Trade, acknowledged the UAE's leadership in promoting global trade.
Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu, Timor-Leste's Minister of Transport and Communications, lauded the UAE for organizing a conference that significantly shapes global trade's future. He emphasized his country's accession to the WTO alongside the Comoros as a step towards supporting their economies through member states' expertise. Mohamed Al Huwaij, Libyan Minister of Trade and Economy, and Atheer Al-Ghareeri, Iraqi Minister of Trade, also commended the UAE for its efforts in supporting WTO development amid global economic shifts.
The collective praise from participating ministers at MC13 highlights the UAE's influential role in redefining global trade dynamics.
